What Your Day Will Look Like
Our canal trip begins at the designated start point, where you'll be greeted with all the necessary equipment and your kayaks prepped and ready for your excursion. After a thorough safety briefing, it's time to embark on your kayaking adventure, gliding along the tranquil waters of the canal amidst breathtaking scenery.
What You Need to Bring
Swim Gear: Ensure you have suitable swimwear to wear under your wetsuit for added comfort and warmth during your kayaking experience.
Shoes: Old trainers are recommended footwear for the activity. If needed, we offer wetsuit boots for £25 a pair.
Towel: Bring a towel to dry off after the activity.
Spare Clothes: It's essential to have a change of clothes for after the activity to stay comfortable.
Lunch: Pack some snacks or a meal if you anticipate getting hungry during your adventure.
Yourself: Most importantly, bring yourself and your adventurous spirit!

How Long Is the Session?
The kayaking session lasts approximately 4 hours, depending on the size of the group. This includes the time spent meeting the instructor, changing into gear, receiving a safety briefing, and enjoying at least 3 hours of nature and history on the canal.

Is kayaking a good adventure?
Yes! Kayaking is a good adventure, if you have never tried it before its a must-try activity, taking you to places you can only see from the river or canal, offering a different view. You will be looked after by your guide and have plenty of fun.
Is it a round trip?
Our kayaking tour is a round trip as we paddle up and down the river way so you will come back to the same please we set off from. The journey is enhanced by the rolling landscape of South Wales, adding an extra layer of adventure to your experience.
Will I see any history on my way?
Yes! There is a lot of history to explore in Wales. We will kayak past and point out all the history on the way up and down the river - the things you will see are wild.
How difficult is kayaking?
Kayaking is one of our more beginner-friendly adventures in Wales. Unlike canyoning or white water tubing, it is not as difficult as them. The explanation for this lies in the physical and mental aspects of kayaking compared to other activities. Kayaking requires less physical strength and technical skill at the beginner level, making it accessible to a wider range of ages and abilities in no time at all. This is why you will find that kayaking is an amazing family-friendly activity for you to do with your kids. We start our kayaking sessions from 6 years old.
Will I get a chance to eat and drink?
Of course - there is a cafe at the start of the meeting location that you you can meet people, get some food to eat and a coffee to drink if you like.
Are there any hidden coves to explore?
There are loads of hidden coves and history gems for you to explore along the way on your adventure time in South Wales.
What will your kayaking day look like?
You will meet your guide at 10.30am and have a safety briefing about the kayak and how to use it. Once you get the basics of how to kayak in a straight line the 4 mile paddle begins. Led by your guide, you will have a lot of fun. Our top-quality products keep you safe and comfortable.
What inspired Wright Activities to start kayaking?
We were inspired to starting kayaking when we saw there was a good demand for outdoor activities in South Wales for locals and people on holiday. We love planning things to use our time in ways people will enjoy a lot.
Are your guides good at kayaking?
Our guides are amazing at kayaking, they go to some wild places on their days off and their own time, and keep kayaking to discover more amazing waterfalls to take different levels of kayakers to. They also travel a lot all over the world kayaking and exploring things, most recently to Uganda.
How many rivers can you kayak in Wales?
There are plenty of wild places to go kayaking in Wales, with planned routes from the guide book there are rivers starting at Grade 1 and going up to Grade 5. The best place to start kayaking white water is a man-made white water course. There are some other beginner-friendly places to start kayaking. The UK guide book is a very helpful book to find places to kayak on a day trip, plenty of things to find and a lot of fun to be had.
Friends on the river
It is super-important you go kayaking with friends and people who have your back. On the off-chance things don't go as planned it is really important your friends are ready in time to throw you a rope, especially in white water. Things can change quickly outdoors, so take time to find a reputable company to look after you along the way.
Places we have been on our days off
It is really important to us that our guide team keep their skills up to date, so over the winter months we always go out and find new places and things to kayak. People are really important to us, as of course, people make this outdoor activity business work.
How long are the kayaks?
The kayaks we use are 8.6ft long sit-on-tops. They are beginner-friendly boats. You will find you will have a lot of fun with the people in your group in a kayaking session, you get enough time to get changed and a detailed explanation of how to use the boats plus at least 3 hours on the kayaks.
